Cervical ectropion, HPV and low grade dyskaryosis

Hi all, I was hoping people may be able to offer advice about any experiences they've had with a cervical ectropion, HPV and low grade dyskaryosis. I'm currently waiting for a follow up smear and colposcopy due to ongoing symptoms/problems.

I found out about the HPV and low grade dyskaryosis following a smear and a biopsy told me that treatment was not necessary at present and that I would require a follow up smear a year later. This smear has been delayed a lot due to the current situation.

Since the initial findings from my smear, I developed a cervical ectropion for which I have had a colposcopy for. I have found since this I've had bleeding after sex, spotting and a yellowish odourless discharge which has been misdiagnosed as BV. I also have a dull and sometimes shooting pain in my lower abdomen that never goes away. The abdominal pain concerns me as it has made me question whether it could instead be a symptom of another condition. Has any one else experienced these symptoms along with any of these problems? Did anyone find that coming off the contraceptive pill (I've been on this for around 10 years) aided their healing of the cervical ectropion?

I can't help but worry that when I have my next smear it will show up as something worse due to the ongoing worsening symptoms. I would be so grateful to hear from anyone in a similar position.

  • Hello wendyra and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I can imagine it must be frustrating for you to see that your smear has been delayed because of the current situation. I think it might be worth talking to your GP about these new symptoms you have been experiencing such as the abdominal pain as your doctor may be able to tell you more about it. I hope that you won't have to wait too long to have your smear so that you get a little bit more clarity on this, but do speak to your doctor about your worries before if you can.

Hopefully you will hear from some of our other members who have been in a similar position. If you type in the keywords "cervical ectropion", "HPV" and "low grade dyskaryosis" via our search forum function which is located on the blue banner at the top, you will be able to see countless threads on this subject and feel free to respond to any you feel would be relevant to you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi in similar situations found out I have cervical erosion then I didn't have surgery on second appointment with gyno because I was scared.  Now found out I have hpv so frightened its something else and can't get to see a gyno cos off pandemic,  I came off the pill and not got my period back After 6mths . Have you got everything sorted out now?

  • Hi. Sorry to hear you're going through a similar situation! How come you were offered surgery for it - is that because it was at a certain stage? I have been referred to a gynae just yesterday because of continued issues so push for it with your doctor because they are accepting referrals!

Try not to worry about hpv - I think a lot of women have it. I know how scary it is though when you hear that you have it and think the worst.

How did you find coming off the pill? I've considered it to see if it helps with the issues they keep attributing to the problems I'm having but find the thought quite daunting.

  • Will do thanks , didn't get told much about what was wrong , I found out more looking it up. But he said he would take something off my cervix and I froze then left wished I wasn't silly and had it done afterwards. he did say I could ring up if still get problems but I've left it about 2yrs so probably not now.  I've been off pill 6mths felt great for first 2 weeks then up and down with my emotions for 3 mths now I feel OK. But not really having periods had like two . I also stopped pill for same reason to see if feel better and if it helps after reading up. But I do feel better in overall.  Just worry with not having what was offered done.
