Speaking difficulty post excisional tongue biopsy

Hi

I had an excisional tongue biopsy on the side of my tongue 5 days ago. I'm still having a lot of difficulty speaking and my tongue is still quite swollen on that side. Just wondering how long did it take for speech to improve after the biopsy? I talk on the phone for most of my working day, so not sure how long it will take before I can go back.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Michelle2020

I hope that things are continuing to settle and improve with your tongue and speech. It can take a few weeks for everything to heal.
Do you have a follow up appointment arranged for your results? If so and things are still not back to normal at that point then I'm sure that the Consultant/nurse will be able to offer you some advice.

  • Hi, apart from your swollen tongue, I hope you are doing ok.         Back in January I had a tumour lasered from under my tongue.    My speech was my main concern,  but after about two weeks it settled down.      Mine was front and side so its like being tongue tied, it took a bit getting used to but the only difference in speech is my 's' sounds are different, but only slightly and to be honest I'm really pleased.                         Before my op. my surgeon said only family and friends would notice a difference, and he was right, strangers wouldn't know.

    Take care.  Colin.
