We lesion on Arm

Hello

i noticed around 12 weeks ago what looked to me like a blood blister on the back of my upper arm. Slightly raised.

weeks later my husband also noticed it and took a photo for me to see clearly. It was reddish black and looked to be nodule like. I maintained it was a blood blister and attacked it with my nails ( I know stupid).. roll on now 4 weeks later and it is back. I had a telephone app with my gp sent over photos and within two days I have been referred to a dermatologist, awaiting app within 2 weeks. I am beside myself with anxiety and foreboding. I have never been a sun worshiper, however over the past 12 months have been abroad twice, had never been overseas before. Also I have used a sun bed several times In this period too. (I also know very stupid) Also it is not itchy but feels tender to touch.

thankyou in advance

a very worried lady

  • Hi Nadine,

I know how worrying it must be but please try and distract yourself whilst waiting for the appointment.

The dermatologist is an expert and will be able to tell if they think it's something easily treatable or something that needs more investigation - probably by removing it for a biopsy. If this is a new lesion it could be caused by anything so don't immediately think it's something serious.

75% of patients referred to dermatology are given a clean bill of health so the odds that your lesion is not serious are high. If it turns out to be skin cancer don't panic - there are great treatments available now & you caught it quickly which is half the battle.

Good luck at your appointment and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
