Whats options, how bad can it be , before we lose her

My mum has just been advised she has lung cancer and has spread to the kidney and liver. Seeing doctors soon for final results and options etc. Joined here to learn more and see if we have any other options not advised by the doctors

  • Hi John,

Sorry to read about your Mum's condition.

Try to make sure she has someone with her in her consultation to support her.

Write down any questions you have before you meet and write the answers down too, the clinicians will welcome this as it can save an awful lot of confusion further down the line.

Research has shown that people forget over half of the information they receive during a stressful consultation if they don't write it down.

They can only recommend treatments, your Mum will need to decide herself on which if any she takes up. Depending on our personal circumstances cancer patients in very similar circumstances choose different care pathways or even refuse treatment altogether.

Other options can include alternative treatments and complementary therapies.

So far as alternative therapies are concerned, there are a lot of charlatans out there making millions by offering false hope based on pseudo-science to vulnerable people looking for a miracle. Countless people in the UK die preventable or prolonged deaths and waste their life savings because they lose faith in conventional medicine and opt for an alternative route.

Complementary therapies are a different thing altogether and can help relieve symptoms and boost your immune system when you need it most, as well as offering some peace of mind.

I hope things go well for your Mum and for you and your family.

    Best wishes

    Dave
