Swollen lymph node

I went to the doctors yesterday and am now waiting for a 2 week referral. I have 1 large lymph node in my right armpit which is painful and surrounding area is swollen. They said they usually wait 2 weeks to see if it goes but as my mum died of breast cancer they are sending me straight away. Has anyone had a swollen lymph node that has been something other than cancer? I've no symptoms in the actual breast that can be seen or felt.

    I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with this health concern at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about things. 

    I can see that Jolamine has chatted with you on another thread and she's already mentioned some really important points to try and remember. 

    We know that waiting for appointments and results can be a really difficult time. It might help if you give one of our nurses a call to chat things through. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Thank you. I had my appointment today. The consultant said the lump was movable and smooth which sounded good. I had a mammogram which was clear in both breasts. The ultrasound could not determine if the lump is a cyst attached to muscle or was a mass because of its position. I've had a biopsy done and have a telephone appointment next Thursday for the results.
