So anxious

A few days ago I noticed a very small raised black spot on my leg. It looks a bit like a blood blister rather than a mole. I didn't think much of it but then decided I'd better get it checked out by the doctor. The doctor has referred me to a dermatologist under 2ww because it looks 'suspicious'. That sent me into a panic and have 'googled' which has thrown up nodular melanoma. I am now having huge anxiety about this and am very scared.  I have my appointment with the dermatologist on Sunday but I am so worried, I can't sleep.

  • Hi Lucy

I was referred under the 'two week' rule for something the doctors thought was highly suspicious. Black centred spot, blurred edges, different colours. Two GPs looked at it and thought the worst and so fast tracked me.
I was in and out of dermatology within 20 minutes I think. It was a harmless beauty spot mixed with freckles and the dryness/flaking was just that - dried skin. Most of the 20 minutes was different consultants and 2 trainees coming in for a look (word had spread it was a rather unusual find and they wanted to see one in person!)

The consultant told me that a melanoma find was rare in her clinic.
Even the most dodgy looking ones can be completely innocent, as in my case.
Not long to wait for your appointment now xxx

  • Thank you for your reply. I do hope the doctor is just being cautious and I guess that is a good thing.  It is reassuring to hear that moles are usually nothing to worry about.
