Stage 4 metastasis from breast

Evening all, my mum has been diagnosed with secondary cancer which has travelled to her right shoulder, spine and pelvis (bone cancer) and also to the liver.  Luckily her chest and head scan were clear.  Mum had breast cancer 7 years ago and has tumour removed and lympnodes.  Had chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  However they are unable to see anything in breast as they need to find primary.  We are now awaiting an appointment at hospital for a plan.  The breast nurse mentioned radiotherapy and pain management.

Mum was only diagnosed 6 weeks ago.  Been having pain since February and before.. GP didn't pick up on it and said it was her COPD in February.  Then covid happened!!!! No appointments whatsoever.  Eventually in April she spoke to another GP over the phone who said they would order urgent scans.  However she had a fall which took her into hospital where she was for 3 weeks with NO VISITORS at all.

Been a nightmare.  Now home for 4 1/2 weeks.  However mum is deteriorating ie she sleeps until 1.00 pm - 3.00 pm.  Not eating.  Dozing off.  Just really worried.  Is this normal any help appreciated.

  • Hello Frimley1234,

A warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear it took so long for your mum to be diagnosed. What a nightmare it has been for you! I hope she has recovered from her fall. If you feel your mum is deteriorating, don't hesitate to give her doctor or specialist a call and explain to them that you are very worried about the fact that she is sleeping all the time and not eating, that you are waiting to be seen at hospital and have a plan but that it took a long time for her to be diagnosed and you are worried about it. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your appointment - I am keeping everything crossed for you!

You can also give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm - they are lovely and will be happy to talk to you and answer questions you may have.

    Best wishes,
