Do not panic! My cervical screening/colposcopy experience

Hi ladies,

I thought I'd just write this is reassure you all if you're in the same situation as me.

I had a smear test last year that came back abnormal- 16/18 was NOT detected, however there were changes in the cells. So the doctor said to come back in 12 months and have follow up smear.

I had my smear test before lockdown (Feb 2020) and revived my letter during lockdown that I needed to have a colposcopy (low grade smear, minor changes to my cervix) I worried myself sick, and had to wait 3 months to have my colposcopy! (Lockdown reasons)

I went in today, and it went so well and I'm definitely reasurred. The doctor said my HPV is still low grade and is one of the ones that will not likely develop into cancer. However they wanted to take a biopsy to double check everything, just in case I need (LLETZ).  It didn't hurt at all, just slightly uncomfortable. But I was allowed to look at the screen to see what he was going to remove (it was good to see what it actually looked like) Anyway I am now waiting to hear back, should be in the next 3-4 weeks. But I just want to repeat to you, that he could not stress enough for me to not worry about it. They do this so later on in life we don't have anything nasty that would be harder to get rid of.
I worried myself so much in the past 4 months (thinking worst case) and I don't want anyone else experiencing the same or thinking they are alone. So keep and calm and just remember it's for the best and you're looking after yourself :)

Please don't hesitate to ask if you want someone to chat to xx
