Tongue cancer again ?

Hi 10 years ago I had a squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue ,slow growing and early stages and was lasered off .I was 37 at the time. Fast forward 10 years and with a 5 year old daughter I now have another in the same place and a red patch under my tongue. I'm having a biopsy in the morning after self isolating for 2 weeks ( due to coronavirus outbreak ) anyway had my swab yesterday and am good to go for the biopsy tomorrow. I'm literally terrified . I know it'll come back as cancer and have no idea what will be done this time . The Dr who referred me said he thought it may be early cell changes and I had no lumps in my neck . I'm up to date with all dental appointments and they have not noticed or picked up anything . Anyway just wanted to offload my fears.

  • Hi Bells,

I can really relate to your anxiety. I am about to have a biopsy due to 'slight asymmetry' at the base of the tongue - I don't have a set day for the biopsy just yet but my anxiety levels have already hit the roof.

Hope you take comfort for the now in the words of your doctor who has observed that if this is cancer, it's not much advanced.

Write here how you are getting on - wishing you the best of outcomes and peace of mind meanwhile,

    Bianca

  • Thank you . Biopsy all done had to have two due to problems in different places . The results are going straight to my original surgeon so I assume that's a definite result which I know this anyway . The biopsy wasn't great due to two places but wasn't horrendous. I hope you can get yours done soon then we know what were dealing with . Is your mouth sore ?
