Borderline ovarian cyst

Hi everyone I'm 57 and just been diagnosed with borderline ovarian cyst. What a shock!,wasn't expecting that. In March I noticed my stomach was bloated and large but thought it was due to the constipation I was suffering from.after phoning doctors as they were not seeing patients I had consultation with doctor over phone. Was given lactulose to help with the constipation and sent for bloods. Ca125 came back as normal but things didn't get better. More phone consultations with doctors given fybrogel nothing was working and I had a pain on my left side which then moved to the right. In may I telephoned Doctor again and asked if they were seeing patients as I definitely needed someone to take a look at my stomach doctor eventually said he would but would be sending me for a scan anyway. It was decided that I would be better just going to the scan. I paid private for the scan and was told I had a large 25cm multicystic ovarian cyst.i was fast tracked through the nhs as couldn't go private as all private had gone across to nhs. Lots of stressful phone calls at a time when I could have done without it. Had gynaecology appointment then mri. Results borderline ovarian cyst. Needs removing asap am now waiting for a date as with the coronavirus everything is slower. Feel let down and as if healthcare is only bothered about the virus. But resigned to just waiting for my op

  • Hi And Thankyou Fortunately I'm ok. Unfortunately it was way more Complicated. So they found a 50cm on my Left Ovary and a 35cm on my right. Iv had the both removed waiting to start HRT in 2 weeks. I wasn't prepared for this but I'm grateful I'm ok. I was down for 7 hours when then thought it would be 90minute Operation. My surgeon has told me he now needs to take my Womb He couldn't take it during the surgery as we didn't discuss it. I'm recovering well iv just got an Infection an Abcess where my wound is. I was out within 2 days. I was so scared of the recovery but it's really not Bad. I hope your Well and Thankyou again x

  • That's fantastic news that you are ok and you are recovering. Sad that you will need a hysterectomy but at least you are ok and hopefully cancer free. I'm good thanks I'm back at work now. My cyst was serous and mucinous and also very large but not as big as yours. Hopefully things will start to improve for you and soon this will all be a distant memory. Message whenever you want if you want some support xx

  • Hey,

Hope you don't mind me jumping on this forum but I had a laparotomy to remove a 20cmX30cm borderline tumour and my right ovary a couple months ago.I'm 18 years old so this came as a bit of a shock as i was so well and healthy before.

Im now having to have my eggs frozen due to me being so young and the chance of a tumour coming back in my remaining ovary.

It took the GP a while to get anything sorted as she was just saying it was IBS. I couldn't go into the doctors for her to examine my belly because of Covid.

I'd never heard of a borderline tumour before or known anyone that's gone through anything like this, so it's nice to speak to people that have xx

  • I'm so sorry you have had to go through this at such a young age. It must have been so scary for you. I have 2 girls myself one 35 and the other 26 and I would have hated for them to have to go through that. Hopefully now it's been removed you will be fine. At least they are freezing your eggs so you will eventually still be able to have a family. But my heart goes out to you, you are very brave and strong young lady. If you want any support please message me I will always reply. Keep positive and look forward not back xx

  • Hi

I wanted to reply because my situation sounds exactly like yours, and its so nice to read stories of people who have gone through the same. I'm 20 years old and 2 weeks ago I had a 15cm suspected borderline cyst removed along with my right ovary and tube.

Its been a very stressful few months as I was fast tracked for suspected cancer after an ultrasound and MRI. However, my surgeon reassured me that he doesn't think its cancer and is a borderline cyst.

I haven't recieved my biopsy results yet so I'm starting to really worry it's actually something worse and so just wanted to know how long others results took to come back?

  • hey,

it's nice to know that i'm not the only person going through the same thing and understand how scary it can be. It's such a weird thing to go through at a young age.

I got my results about 3 weeks after emergency surgery but i think that's because they found the hard masses during surgery.

always here to talk and if you have any questions i'll try my best to help x

  • Hopefully I will get my results soon then, the waiting is definitely the worst part!

Emergency surgery must have been really scary I can't imagine, what were your symptoms up until then? Mine was surprisingly painless I just looked a few months pregnant my stomach was so bloated!

It is so crazy to happen so young, you don't even consider something like this could ever happen so it's such a shock when it does.
Same here if you ever need a chat x

  • Hopefully you get your results soon and it's good news

I didn't have any pain either, just looked about 9 months pregnant. I had some bowel issues too due to the cyst being so big it was squashing my bowel! Once the cyst was removed that stopped though. I was also weeing a lot more too x

  • I finally got my results back, after the longest 5 weeks of my whole life and they were borderline, so I am over the moon!! I have no idea why it took so long but I'm so happy anyway.

I just wanted to ask about you having your eggs frozen, was that something the NHS offered or are you having it done privately?

I hope you are still doing well x

  • Hey,

That's fab news! Glad it all went okay for you xx

The NHS offered my eggs to be froze because there's the chance of me becoming prematurely infertile due to the change of it coming back in my other ovary. Im not sure if they offer this in all the healthboards or if wales is different etc.

    Hope this helped x
