Anxious and scared parent here!

My 4 year old son has 4 enlarged lymph nodes in his neck with no sign of illness or infection. It's been nearly 5 weeks and theh have got bigger in his neck. I have taken him back the GP who checked again for possible infection/illness and there isnt anything. Upon checking him over he found enlarged lymph nodes in his groin now aswell. My son has been having horrendous nightmares and sweats for the past 2 weeks a concern for us as this is very out of character. He has also lost some weight since he was last weighed. The gp called the pediatrics who said to do a rapid access referal. I'm so scared and worried. Please can anyone offer some reassurance at this stage and how long it was before they got an app to be seen at the hospital by pediatrician and what tests will be carried out.

  • Hi there,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your worries about your son - I can certainly imagine this must be unsettling.

Try not to get too far ahead of yourself with this or to assume anything one way or the other - instead try to take things a day at a time and wait for any results to find out any potential next steps.

Referral times are different for everyone and it can also depend on each hospital too. If you'd like to talk anything through with our nurses about what to potentially expect at the hospital, they are available on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
