Immobile lump - is it always cancer?

I did the silly thing and hit Dr Google today...hoping to just speak to someone who can hopefully offer me some real factual information!

im 32 and about a week ago, I found a hard lump in my right breast. It's sort of half a grape shape (lengthwise!) and it's doesn't move - it's quite firm. Can't see it on the skin, just feel it.

Went to the doctors today and she didn't say much but said she has referred me to the breast clinic and the appointment will bit within 2 weeks. Said it potentially could be a cyst as she also felt a little one in a similar place on the other boob (I didn't notice this)

Anyway, everywhere I've read, if the lump doesn't move, that's indicative of cancer and that cysts move under the skin. Mine doesn't move so that's worrying me to death and the 2 week wait is going to be awful.

Advice and personal experiences would be amazing xx

  • Hi georgie1988,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Firstly it's good to hear you got this checked out and that you have a referral - hopefully you'll know more before too long.

I can certainly understand this must be unsettling - the uncertainty and waiting for information is never easy.

It's worth noting that most breast lumps turn out to be benign - you can find out more on our website here. If you'd like to, you can also find out a little more about what to expect at the clinic on the Breast Cancer Now website here.

Some people say it helps to keep busy and to keep your mind off things while waiting for the appointment.

There will be many others here who have been through something similar, so if you don't get further replies here you can always browse or search the forum for other similar discussions if you'd like to.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
