Kidney cancer diagnosed in Lockdown still in shock

Hello, My husband was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma on the 11th May, he had a biopsy on the 19th and we are still awaiting his results, we are hoping to get them today, this was a total shock to us as he is in good health and still working at 69. He has had a dramatic weigh loss and seems to deteriorate daily, I’m usually a very organised person but I feel so helpless and especially during COVID 19,we have only had one face to face appointment which I understand but it all seems so impersonal. His support nurse has put us in touch with Macmillan who have been helpful and we have a telephone appointment next week.

Sorry I’m just rambling but I just don’t know what to do

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Buttercup although I'm sorry about your husband's diagnosis.

I know you were waiting for his biopsy results the other day so I just thought I'd check in to see what happened. I hope you got some favourable news and now have a better idea of what lies ahead.

Hopefully some of our members with experience of renal cell carcinoma will share their advice and experiences with you soon but if you want to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses you can do so on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m -5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Hello Steph,

We did not get his results as expected and were told they are still being looked at he will get them on Monday when he has his first telephone appointment with a consultant at our local cancer specialist hospital, thank you for your reply & concern at this very worrying time.

    Regards
