Uncle diagnosed with brain tumour

Hi,

My uncle was diagnosed with a brain tumour on Thursday. He had been experiencing seizures affecting his right arm & speech during the seizure. This progressed to his right leg shaking during the seizures also. Around the same time the seizures started he started to experience altered sensation & weakness in his right arm/hand. This had been going on for a couple of months. He saw his gp & was referred for an mri scan which he had on Wednesday. Once back at home after the scan, he experienced another seizure - the 1st one witnessed by another person (my mum). She called an ambulance & my uncle was taken to a&e. He had a further seizure in a&e and another 2 on the emergency admission ward. He's since been put on anti epilepsy medication and steroids.

He stayed in hospital until Saturday evening, we were told his discharge was dependent on a ct scan of the pelvic area - we aren't sure why he had this or what the outcome of it was.

We haven't been told which lobe the tumour is in, all we know is it's in the left cerebral cortex.

Cognitively he seems to have deteriorated in such a short space of time...forgetful, confused etc. Physically his right sided weakness is more apparent.

He has a biopsy on Monday as a day case patient.

We're all trying to think positively but I for one am shocked at how quickly we can now see the symptoms.

Thanks for reading, sorry for such a long post, I've got so many questions x

  • Welcome to the forum Bubblybutterfly although I'm really sorry to read what happened to your uncle. I hope the medication is helping keep his seizures at bay whilst further tests are being carried out.

Fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long to find out more but if you'd like to talk things through with someone in the meantime then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
