Awaiting biopsy results and scared

Hi,

I was seen at the breast clinic for a 2WW appointment 2 weeks ago. At the appointment the ultrasound showed what looked like a solid lump however it was quite deep and under scar tissue. The radiologist did a core biopsy during which fluid was released from the lump, it appeared cloudy with some blood from what I could see on the needle. The radiologist said that the lump had immediately reduced in size so she thought it was a cyst however would still send the sample off or be tested.

The consultant booked me in for a follow up appointment 4 weeks later (still 2 weeks to go!). My biopsy wound has now healed so I have been able to see if the lump had now gone, which I assume a cyst would?, but the lump is still there.

My dad is currently unwell and I am caring for him and have been unable to tell my family about the lump through fear of causing more stress for what might be nothing. I just have a very uneasing feeling about it this time. I've previously had 2 benign lumps removed from the same breast but it feel different this time.

If anyone has had a similar experience or has experience with cysts, I'd really appreciate hearing your story.

Thanks x

I'm glad to hear that the radiologist didn't feel that there was any immediate reason for concern. You mention that the lump was under some scar tissue so I wonder if what you can feel is scar tissue or some residual inflammation from the area they identified on the ultrasound.

We know that waiting for test results can be a really difficult time and it's natural to be worried about things. Add to this the fact that your Dad is unwell and that you've been unable to tell your family what is going on then it's understandable that you may be feeling uneasy about things.

I wonder if you'd find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. Sharing it with someone may help and I'm sure that they would be able to offer some support and reassurance.

You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
