subungual melanoma

hi my names stacey i am new to the site,

past few years my GP been sending me home with anti fungal medication for my sore toes.

last year a mole fell off and left my skin a horrible patch

my thumb nail and others started "pealing" cracking in half, many small issues i thought were due to having fake nails too much. i stopped having shellac and started noticing a black line growing up,

after time the big toe was painful i couldn't walk and the black line was from tip to cuticles.

the thumb on the right had.

i am now waiting to have a biopsy have you been in this situation? have you any advice?

did anyone ever not have cancer like bob marley off the background of a black line?

reaching out to see if i can get any information, i panic a bit when the pain is sore like today.

  • Hello Stacey,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Stacey,

I haven't had subungal melanoma (mine is on the skin), but I know there have been several posts recently on the same subject. If you go to 'Search Forum' at the top of the page & enter Subungal it should find you any recent posts.

Can I add that, subungal melanoma is rare - it only accounts for 1% of melanoma diagnoses, so there is a very good chance that your nail problem is caused by something more treatable.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi everything else has been tested for.

I have a biopsy of the nail bed to get next, fingers crossed all will be good. Even at the worst outcome I will remain positive. I've had brain surgery too in 2016 benign tumour colloid cyst another rare one.

    thanks for your response

  • Yes I am very positive in the mindset and mediate daily.

i know it's very early and the thing I need most is patience.
thanks for your input I hope someone who has had this let's me know their story and share some inspiration

  • Hi

I was wondering how you are now? Have you had your biopsy done.

I am just new to the page. I had a biopsy done on 2nd July on my left thumb. Like you I had a black line going through my nail but also a line of completely different colour pigmentation. They have removed my nail completely & sent it for analysis and done a biopsy on the nail bed also. I'm really anxious and worried about the results.

    Hopefully you got on ok..

  • Hi my appointment is 31st July.

can i ask a couple questions?

do they take away the nail and bed on the same appointment ?

what is the pain of it like and are you awake?

do they use any local anestesia?

is it then bandages up? will I be able to fly ?

ive currently half moved to Almeria.....

what is your next appointment for diagnosis? and is there more treatment to be had?

today's date how are you and how is your hand?
my anxiety is what it is but I am so happy to see your comment people don't know about this type of issue it's been hard to find anyone who's actually in the same situations

I've added you as a friend - LB

    xx

  • Hi,

I think we are pretty much in the same position. I had my  thumbnail removed & biopsy done on 2nd July although I was told I wouldn't get any results for 4-6 weeks so I am still waiting for an appointment for my results.

You must be really worried about Tuesday, I hope everything goes well for you . Would you mind letting me know how you get on?

Take Care & have everything crossed for you
