Worrying about apt in breast clinic

Hi hopefully someone will be able to help. I'm 29yo and have been struggling with abdominal pain and heavy periods for the last few years. After trying all the pills under the sun I was put on the mirena coil, which was great.... until it wasn't. All of my old symptoms came back and my doctor wanted to know if it was still in the right place. In the meantime she put me on the mini pill until I could get a scan and see a specialist. I started to notice a brown sticky discharge coming from my nipples. When I was in the bath, I could get it out myself, it comes out on its own and my breasts felt rock hard. Last week when I finally got my scan it turned out my coil was in its place and I was able to see a specialist who finally diagnosed me with endometriosis and I will be eventually going for surgery when we are back to some sort of normality and for now I'm on Zoladex. When I mentioned my breast issues to the specialist she sent me for blood tests straight away and that she would refer me to a breast clinic "just for a chat and a check up" she said casually and "symptoms will ease once you stop the mini pill" (they haven't) but when my appointment came through the post today I am seeing a breast surgeon and it is not at my local hospital which fills me with anxiety too. Sorry for my long post but what can I expect at this appointment? It also says on my letter to choose whether or not to go because of the governments guidelines about staying home etc but how do I make that call? I'm not a doctor! Any advice would be really appreciated thank you.

    Sorry you have been struggling with abdominal pain and heavy periods for the last few years.

    Does your doctor know about the brown sticky discharge coming from the nipples?

    Glad the coil was in its place and that you were able to see a specialist who finally diagnosed me with endometriosis, not that I am glad you have it.  Hope surgery goes as well as possilble.

    Sorry to hear that seeing the breast surgeon fills you with anxiety, but it is good that you are in good hands. If it is any consolation, I had a lump in my mouth and was referred to an oral surgeon. The GP said the oral surgeon MAY want to take a biopsy, the oral surgeon did take one, but the result was a mucous filled salivary gland. I l know it's not a breast, but it was still a surgeon.

    I can't say what to expect at the appointment, as I have never seen one, I hope you can ask the surgeon questions, they are experts so hopefully they may be able to give you some indicators that will ease your mind.

    I had a mammogram and got recalled as there was an abnormality, I had to go for a sonogram, but the man who did it told me it was a harmless cyst which is benign.  

    If I were you, I would choose to go, otherwise you will be left with your own thoughts.

    One last word of advice is that I would NOT google as googling aggrevates the anxiety. I hope the appointment comes through soon.

    As for it not being a local hospital, we have a choose and book system here and soem of the hospitals are farther away but still in my county. I hope this post helps you. Please do see surgeon, and let us know how you get on.

    Hi thank you very much for your reply. I told the specialist about the discharge that's why she referred me to the breast clinic. I think I will keep the appointment otherwise like you said I'll be left with my own thoughts and I tend to over think everything anyway. I have stayed away from Google so far and my appointment is only just over 2 weeks away. I'm happy to hear your results were benign and thank you for easing some of my anxiety.

    I am glad I was able to ease some of your anxiety. I am also glad that you are going to keep your appointment and that you have refrained from looking at Google.

    I hope the two weeks does not cause you too much distress, the time should go quickly, hope you can find some distraction.

    Hi, 

    From my experience when you are referred they appoint a surgeon..when I went to clinic you see a consultant first who examines the breasts and then they send you for the relevant scans...biopsies etc.

    I never actually saw my surgeon until it was confirmed I needed surgery although he was named on all my appointment letters.

    Hope this helps the guys at breast clinic are lovely..please keep your appointment because they take every necessary precaution against the virus and you will be left overthinking everything if you dont x

    I had right side mastectomy on Thursday.
