Colon cancer

I'm on the 28th day of chronic watery diarrhoea which fluctuates in colour with blood. Contacted the doctor on day 9 and started the process of bloods and stool samples. Other symptoms are cramping pain in lower back, constant fatigue, foggy vision, pain after passing fluid, lost a stone in weight since January. Can't eat a whole meal and a bit off food compleatly.
had my FIT test done no results as of yet, been put through as fastracked and have a telephone appointment on Tuesday.

what are people's thoughts or experience with these symptoms. Really anxious and trying to cope, on my own as a single parent.
both my grandmothers sisters had bowel issues and still trying to find out more detail, is it hereditary?

  • Hello

it could be Chrones disease, it could be an allergy or food poisoning. In my experience of bowel cancer, it causes constipation and not loose stools. Just a quick question have you being taking Buscopan. I know one or two people have taken it but this seriously causes dreadful diarrhoea.

  • Been told it's not chrones or colitis, not taking any anti diarrhoea medication. I have suffered for a few years with fluctuations of constipation and diarrhoea never for this length of time it's quite frightening

  • Hello

you have been told it's not these things but have you been tested? For your body to be this upset something is going on bit it doesn't sound like cancer to me.  For whatever reason your "transit time" ie the time you eat and the time you go to the loo seems too fast. Do this simple test. Eat some sweet corn and measure how fast it does from end to the other. It should be about 24 hours, any faster then your bowels are working overtime for some reason. I have to say I had two years of this myself in my late twenties. It was suggested to me that (1) I was eating too much pasta (2] I wasn't eating enough fat. Both of which was true  and then the worry of it all caused anxiety which also speeds things up, it's that flight or flight thing.

Have a good look at your diet, what are you eating? You certainly need to do something to move yourself out of this bowels boot camp. Are you taking any medication for anything? My worry for you is that if your food is going through this quickly you are not absorbing enough nutrients.

You could ask to see a dietician.

  • Hello Kynren,

interesting to read your summation of a fast bowel linked to anxiety.l had a career in looking after seriously large numbers of growing pigs.Their phsyology is very similar to those of ours.We would see outbreaks of scour that had no medical or bacterial trigger, and over the years came to realise that this was an indicator of stress manifesting itself. You could not see a huge stand out reason for the cause, more a case of a tiny subtle background change causing low level but constant stress. This could range from airflow, draughts,to housing, layout, stocking density,to slight changes in diet The lesson learned was constant tiny changes could had major long term impacts, and treatment was not drug related but reinstating personal piggy happiness and contentment

Your post succinctly highlighted the potential and that we do not give enough credit to what is looked upon as so insignificant as to be of no possible reason for something that has progressed over time to become a major problem,
