Hello - my Dad is dying

Hi guys,

My Dad has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer - gastric cancer , that has spread to his liver, lymph nodes and brain.

We've probably got a few months left together.

I have been recovering from PTSD, anxiety and depression myself, so my current psychological resources are fairly depleted. Lockdown has not helped!

I want to support him and my family as best I can, given my own health issues. Any tips advice guidance resources that might help me, all greatly appreciated xx

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum EllaBee although I'm really sorry about your dad.

I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must have been to receive this news but you're not alone as many of our members have been through this with their loved ones so will understand what you're going through at the moment and will hopefully pop by soon to offer their support and advice.

In the meantime I just wanted to share some information we have on our website about dying with cancer and a section for family members, friends and caregivers.

I really hope this helps but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then they'll be available next week on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi Ella. My dad has been diagnosed 2 weeks ago with bowel cancer thats spread to his liver, lungs & lymph nodes. Hes currently in hospital and doesnt sound good at all. Weve not been given a time scale but I dont think it will be long. My heart is broken and I feel so empty. Xx
