Hi everyone,

I have never posted on a site like this but my anxiety has taken over hence this post.

Its been about a week since I noticed (what I thought was) an enlarged tonsil on the left side of my throat. I first noticed it about a week ago in the mirror...the area looks like a large swollen lump with a whiteish yellowish area covering most of the lump.  

On closer inspection today it looks more like the lump is a growth above the actual tonsil (around 2 cm) rather than a part of it. I do not have a sore throat, no temperature and no illness otherwise.

 I have called the GP and spoken to him. He has prescribed a course of antibiotics in case it is a strain of tonsillitis, but I cant help but think it may be something more sinister.

Does anyone else have any experience of these symptoms? Should I be worried?
