Referral - for enlarged tonsil

I have been to the doctors today and as one of my tonsils is bigger than the other he has referred me through the. 2 week referral clinic to see a specialist. Told me it's unlikely to be anything but needs to do this as he couldn't find any signs of infection. I've been very upset since as I am scared. He did say most of the referrals are not diagnosed as cancer in the end but to try and hold on to fact it's unlikely. My anxiety tells me that he just didn't want to tell something but is it more likely this is just precautionary? Any help would be appreciated as am worried sick. I'm 38 and don't smoke and female x

  • Hello Neens,

I'm sorry you've been feeling this way, but trust that your doctor is trying to reassure you. It is true that 9 in 10 referrals are not cancer and you can read about it here. It can be difficult, but try not to overthink it, as there is no way of knowing if there is a problem until you have more tests.

Try to not to worry and I hope your appointment goes well.
