Weeks wait

Hi,I I'm new here. I went to the drs two days ago due to a lump in my breast she felt it straight away, my nipple has inverted, the colour has changed and I have a rash/rough skin around the nipple. My breast has also changed size massively. The Dr also found a pea sized lump in my armpit. I have been referred to the breast clinic and I am so worried, how long do results take? What should I expect? I'm also feeling pain around my nipple the Dr said with breast cancer you don't feel pain around the lump is this correct?

  • Hi I've too just been reffered to breast clinic.

My appointment is on the 18th May.

Just wanted to say hi and tell you you're not alone with this worry :)

  • My appointment is the 18th too at 9.15am! Hiiii

  • Mines at 11am , counting down the days, I think I'll feel better once I know one way or the other :( the not knowing is awful.

I hope u have some support at home in the meantime :)

  • Hi Doxey,

If you haven't already, please read the disclaimer at the bottom.

First of all welcome to the forum, I'm sorry you're brought here in clearly difficult times for you. It's good that your GP has done what sounds to be a thorough examination and has sought specialist opinion so quickly. Do remember a signficant majority of women who attend a new patient breast clinic will not have anything wrong, but it's entirely understandable why you could be anxious for this. If you'll allow, I'll briefly explain what will happen at the breast clinic: make sure you have a list of any medications you taken and keep in mind any family members with a history of cancer to give the specialists the fullest picture. The team will likely want to carry out a physical examination, ask you for a full clinical history & may well do scans including a mammogram and/or ultrasound. If they would like to further investigate anything they see on these scans, they may well take a biopsy (a small sample of breast tissue) and they will I'm sure explain why this is and when you'll know more. You could be there for up to a few hours. If you can, take someone with you for support and so you have a second pair of ears to hear any information. Please do not be afraid to ask questions whilst you are there, the specialists will have heard everything! I hope you will be seen soon and wish you all the best for the appointment. Please let us know how it goes.
