Left breast slightly swollen, indent only when tensed

Hi,

I'm 24 and I've noticed a lot of young women asking for advice. I feel terrible even writing on here because it's probably nothing compared to what my anxiety is telling me and I send all my love and strength to those who are going through their own battle. So I'm hoping you ladies can calm me a bit :D

Unfortunately my mum passed away suddenly last year, she was 43. In January we held her funeral and there was some other issues along the way. The day after I noticed my left boob was slightly swollen on the top and every time I tensed there is a dimple forming on the outside of my breast on the lower half. Obviously I'm instantly panicking and panicking more so given the situation I was in. So I went to the doctors. Nervous anyway (I'm autistic, so it's very difficult for me to do things on my own like that) I booked an emergency appointment with what I thought was a female doctor as that's what she told me.

Arrived for my appointment. Turned out it was a male doctor which upset me so I asked the receptionist why this was the case when the lady on the phone told me in the morning it will be made with a female. I had to ask a nurse who knew my mum to chaperone me and it was one of the most uncomfortable experiences in my life.

After the examination he ruled that I was experincing fibrocystic changes which probably is stress induced and it felt a little swollen, lumpy&ropey and advised I took primrose oil. I have been taking them and the pain has gone, but what's concerning me is the swelling and that dimple. There has been no further changes to my breast that I'm aware of since January and I have been frantically checking them every 2-3 days and googling everything since. I know I shouldn't :(

So I was just wondering if there is any women out there who has experienced this?

Or should I opt for a second opinion? Because I'm a little scared and lost right now.

Thank you for taking your time to read this and will appreciate any comments/advice:) xx

  • Hi BlackPanther and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad the primose oil is taking the pain away although I'm sorry the swelling and the dimple is still worrying you. If it will help to ease your mind, then do seek out a second opinion. We have some information on how to do this just here.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat about this with one of our cancer nurses next week then you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available between 9a.m - 5p.m, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays).

    Kind regards,
