Irregular periods

I'm 23 years old not in a relationship, never been pregnant and have not been sexually active for 6months. (I just thought I put it out there) and I have extremely irregular periods.

My periods started at 10 I would have a period every 2months, after 5 years I started getting irregular periods where I would have a period every 3, 6 or 8months. Then around 16,17,18 I would have a period for up to 3 months in winter and in the spring summer months I would only have three periods.

After that I would get a period every two three four months. Max 4 periods every month.

However my problem is since January 2020 I have had continuous bleeding and still am. It started off as light, medium and by the end of February it was light and I was expecting it to end, but in March my period got heavy and it still is.

I have clots and let me tell you I have gone through a lot of pads.

Also during this whole time I have had pain in my waist, legs and stomach. I have gained weight, I am always so exhausted because of all the blood I'm losing.

I started norethisterone 5mg on the 15 April and it did help the flow but it caused migraines so had to stop.

I have now started cerazette 75mcg but the bleeding has gotten so heavy and the clots are extremely heavy and thick.

I have pcos and the reason why I have not started the combi pill but only progesterone pill because I was on it at 17 and 10kg which I have struggled to lose since.

Does anybody have any advice or has anybody gone through this? I am worried that I have some bigger problem that doctors are missing because I am not 'trying for a baby'. I am really worried that when in the future I do try for a baby it will turn out I can't have a child. Also, I know this might sound silly but I really don't want this to cause me to have some type of cancer in the future.

Please can someone help. I am desperate.

  • Welcome to the forum Glassslipper607 although I'm sorry to read what you've been going through. It sounds very tough.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position or have some advice will get back to you soon but you're welcome to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I know it's difficult with the current pandemic but if there is more than one doctor at your GP surgery you could try getting in touch with a different doctor for a second opinion.

    Kind regards,
