Worried about breast

Hi I'm 24 years old and have some pain in my left arm pit I also felt a pea sized lump. I went to doctors today and doctor also could feel it but told me not to worry as under 30 year old it's rarely a worry to find lumps and will just be a swelled lymph node. I have to keep an eye on it and go back in two weeks. She said it's non urgent. But I can't help but still feel stressed. I've felt sick past two days and I think it's just down to stress of this. Does anyone have any advice?

  • Please go back to GP, see another one and insist on referral to breast clinic.  Without wanting to scare you, you are not too young to be at risk. GPs are not always right. I had a delay on my breast cancer diagnosis because my GP 'wasn't worried' and I wish I had been insistent. Generally cancerous lumps are painless but not always. Any new swellings, lumps etc need further investigation. You know your body. Good luck.

    Thank you for your reply!!

I know I feel like I should just take her word because the rest of my breast is totally fine and nothing  is out the ordinary but I understand that I should keep pushing it since it is a lump. I'm not sure what to do part of me thinks just wait the two weeks and see if it is just a cyst.

You could wait 2 weeks but cysts can last longer. It might be a cyst and it might be a reactive lymph node but not referring you on your age alone isnt right. You could give it 2 weeks, if no change or still worried, go back and ask for referral. A quick scan or examination by the breast experts should help. Good luck x

Yeah she said that if it remains I'll get sent to the breast clinic for an ultrasound but they're not really accepting non urgent cases at the moment because of corona. I just hope that it goes away or if it doesn't I jus hope it's nothing I think it's so easy to over stress just wish I won't haha xx

    Hi Bh,

Not an awful lot is likely to happen in 2 weeks, but if the lump is still there then, get straight back to your GP and ask for a referral. Sadly cancer is no respector of age.

This pandemic doesn't make cancer diagnosis or treatments as straightforward as they usually are. You know your own body better than anyone else, so if you're still not happy, get it checked out. There are a number of different reasons for lumps in the breast/underarm, many of which are benign.

Try to keep yourself as busy as possible, to take your mind off the wait.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

yeah that's what I'm trying to think like worse case scenario two weeks isn't too bad a wait!! Then hopefully if it's still there then I can get booked for the breast clinic. And yeah I think that is it just more common in over 30s? I'm such an Over  thinker anyway and it's so hard during these awful times xxx

    Hi Bh,

It's hard at the best of times, but even worse with this pandemic. Can you find something like a nice big jigsaw to take your mind off things? The TV is just depressing at the moment.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Yeah hopefully I can just find something to do thank you!! I appreciate your reply. I just keep thinking everything as a bad sign now when I think I need to just try and relax
