Lumpectomy

Hi I'm having lumpectomy and sentinel mode biopsy this Wednesday 8th April Very anxious xxxx

  • I am also waiting for a lumpectomy. Originally was told this would be followed by radiotherapy but the follow up is now unlikely so have been offered a mastectomy if I prefer.

Are you due to have radiotherapy?

  • Hi all I know is I am having lumpectomy tomorrow and sentinel node removal They said I will be having radiotherapy and also probably Tamoxifen My cancer is 12mm long and is Grade 2 I have a follow up appointment on 24th April to get results of sentinel node plus if I had clear margins Why dont you think you will get radiotherapy and have they offered you a mastectomy? Do you know what stage cancer you have? Would like yo make you a friend on here but no clue how to Wish it was this time tomorrow!!! Xxxxx

    Hi Martina,

I just want to wish you all the best for your surgery tomorrow and, hope that it all goes well. You will probably find that it a lot easier than you're expecting - most of us do.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Hopeful18,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that your treatment has been changed due to the current pandemic. Do you know what type and grade of breast cancer you have and, have you decided which type of surgery you will opt for?

A lot will depend upon how long this virus lasts as to whether or not you get radiotherapy. Have you been given any indication of when your surgery will be yet? I hope that it won't be long.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine and thankyou very much for your lovely message I suppose I'm lucky I have been diagnosed early but not knowing if radiotherapy is going ahead is daunting If it does go ahead it will probably start the third week in May My cancer nurse told me that although theres this horrible virus they still have to think about people like me As it stands I have an excellent prognosis if there is no recurrence My mother had full mastectomy 30 years ago with tamoxifen and shes still here at age 84 One of the things I'm finding hard to cope with is not telling my family I cant tell my mother as we lost a sister a year ago to cancer and I'm not able to visit her due to lockdown I cant tell my two children who live away as they would only worry I fobd it hard not to be able to talk to my sisters and kids about it but if I tell them and they cant come see me then it will be very hard for them so I'm keeping quiet and may tell them after my follow up on 24th April Tomorrow I'm having wire guided breast lumpectomy which diesnt bother me ond iota I'm anxious about being put to sleep although I had my gall bladder out three years ago and was fine xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Hi Marina,

I am sure that everything will be very straightforward for you tomorrow. Having a general anaesthetic is always a worry. I stopped breathing on the operating table a few years ago, in the middle of a gall bladder operation. I now have to use fibre-optic intubation and, to swallow the camera without coughing, before they put me out.

I hope that your radiotherapy goes ahead, as a number of people have had their treatment deferred due to the pandemic. I sincerely hope that you get a clear margin and that your sentinel node is clear when you get your results on 24th April. Do please let us know how you get on.

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow – this time tomorrow it will all be over!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hey honey, first of all I know exactly where you are right now! Because I was exactly there about a month ago.... It is scary. But!!! It actually does get better!! I too, had a lumpectomy. I also had 4 weeks of radiotherapy. I'm also on Tamoxifen for the next 5 to 10 years. But hey what do we do??? We've just got to go with the flow now. Always here for you if you need to chat. Love Shel xxxxx

    HI Martina,

I hope that by now your lumpectomy is behind you and, you can begin to move forward. I tried to reply to your friend request when it came through last night, but there were some gremlins in the system and it wouldn't post my reply. There's no hurry, but if you send me another request whenever you feel up to it, I'll happily accept it.

I hope that you are coping ok without any visitors. It's a horrible time to be in hospital at the moment.
