Coronavirus letter

Hi all, I was hoping to get some clarification about these coronavirus letters that have been handed out. My father who has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukima , Type two diabetes and suffers from a high blood pressure has been told that he will not receive a letter as he is not at the ( at risk ) category. We all as a family have been waiting in eagerness for him to receive a letter in the last week. He has phoned multiple departments over the last week as we have all been worrying that he is not on the list to be told several times to phone a different department as they can handle his worries. However as today being the deadline he phoned his consultant and he was told his conditions were not considered high risk. Resulting in this he will be made to go back to work in an environment that has no PPE and there is no rules such as two metre distancing in place. As you can tell we are serverly worried as he is at high risk to contract the disease and be hospitalised where he will not receive a ventilator if he becomes serverly Ill and will not be resuscitated. Is there any way that he could receive the letter and our worries could be put to bed.

  • Hi Silverclaw and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your father. It must be very stressful for you all at the moment.

Hopefully some of our members who have the same diagnosis or those who have received these letters and texts from the NHS will get back to you soon but you may find it helpful to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

You may find more information and advice on the coronavirus section of the gov.uk website as well.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I hope you're able to get some clarification on this so your dad can be safe.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
