Long term asbestos exposure

Hi, a ceiling in our house has been crumbling/partially collapsed for over 5 years and I've just hoovered/dusted up the dust. I recently sent off a sample of the ceiling for testing because I found out Artex can contain asbestos, it came back saying that it contains Chrysotile. I'm now really concerned about the exposure I've had, about 10 years ago another ceiling with the same Artex collapsed and we had a builder clean it up, not knowing the risks. I've been struggling to sleep lately knowing the amount of dust I've inhaled, should I let my GP know my exposure? I'm also concerned about my family who have also used this room daily for years.

  • Hi Anon12312,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. If you're concerned about this and would like to discuss it, you could always give our nurses a call - they may be better placed to advise. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5 - or alternatively you can post in the 'Ask the nurses' section of Cancer Chat.

Otherwise if you'd like peace of mind you could always speak to your GP, as you suggest.

    Wishing you all the best,
