My dads got pancreatic cancer

Hi all, new to this forum, my dads recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, up until 2 weeks ago he was up and driving, looking after his garden and taking my mum out, but this last week or so he's not got up or eating, much at all,  very emotional, my mum is in bits as am I and all my family. He's taking Dexamethasone steroids which we thought would perk him up but they've not helped at all, he's on 6 mg a day and was wondering if anyone's got any advice about these steroids. Thank you

My dads always been very fit never had an illness and looked after himself he's 72 and it's breaking my hear that it's almost 4 in the afternoon and he's not got up once!!

Take care and many thanks for reading x

  • Hi there

I think your dad is depressed. My mum is as well. Diagnosed with bowel cancer 2 wks ago. Mum though has had mental health issues all her life but this has floored her. Cancer is such a nasty life changing thing and this nasty disease doesn't discriminate..

Mum was calling me from hospital every night but since diagnosis she doesn't call me much now probably can't face taking to me & it's making me so sad.

like your dad my mum is 72 as well. This age is difficult because cancer is common in this age yet ppl this age are still active and feel young. Mum didn't even seem ill. No pain no sickness.. nothing ... yet here it is. Stage 4 colon cancer. Hoping for treatment but they'll delay it because of Coronavirus..

I am sending good wishes to you and your dad . I hope he will get well again. Take care x
