Recently diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer which has spread to my lung and liver. I am about to have chemotherapy soon and I am trying to be as positive as I possibly can and would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar diagnosis and has a any information on the positive side . I also would like to chat with anyone who just needs a chat as I want to go into this treatment as positive as possible thank you Charles

  • Hi Charles,

My mum is having tests at the moment (biopsies etc) as the doctors are trying to stage her as she has bowel cancer but it's between 3 and 4 anyway. With the Coronavirus around it's delaying the time taken for all of this and I'm worried . Mum is a worrier and is very scared I'm trying to keep positive for her and it's hard in the current climate tbh. I am glad you're having chemo for this it means they think you have a chance at beating it. I wish you lots of luck and hope your treatment will be ok...I hope they do this with mum but at 72 I am worried that they won't ..mums tumour has spread to her liver as well she has several growths  on it and at her age I'm scared that they'll only offer palliative care ... to me that'd be giving up on her. I'm pretty new to caring for someone with cancer .. but there are others on here who have a lot of experience and will be able to offer more advice however if you wish to chat anytime please feel free. Take care and keep safe.

  • Hi. Really sorry to hear about your mam yes I am 68 and it was a big shock as I don't feel ill. The worst thing was telling my daughters but I am going to be positive and fight it all the way. The doctor I had seen could see I wanted to do as much as I could to fight cancer. Tell your mam to be as positive as she can . I know it is very difficult with this dreadful corona virus but tell her to stay as positive as she can and never give up trying to get treatment. Please keep in touch and stay strong my wife and daughters have been a great help and my granddaughter has got me playing on her Nintendo. I try and keep as busy as I can as  my wife gives me plenty of jobs to do. Stay strong for her . Always here for a chat Charlie
