Newly diagnosed what help can I expect with the current situ

Hi my mum has just been diagnosed with lung cancer, she’s 85yrs of age and now I know what’s wrong looking back I can see it was showing all the signs but I hadn’t seen it and put it down her to getting older. The diagnosis is obviously worrying but I’m also concerned that due to her age and the corona virus situation that she won’t get the help she would have done if her age and the virus weren’t as they are?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Jucridor although I'm sorry about your mum's recent diagnosis.

These are very challenging times at the moment but unfortunately we are unable to say what will happen. If you have your mum's permission you could try getting in touch with her specialist nurse, doctor, or GP to find out more but her team will take into account the risks of treatment and balance these against how serious it would be for her if she became infected by the virus or did not have specialist services available during or shortly after her treatment.

Hopefully some of our members who are in similar situations will pop by for a chat soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

You can read more about coronavirus and cancer on our website and keep up to date with the latest guidance and information about coronavirus on the gov.uk website just here

    Best wishes to you both,
