Having endometrial cancer - coping with daily radiotherapy

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed on 4th dec 2019, a day in my life I will never forget.  I underwent biopsies on 22nd november after having numourous scans and being told that the lining of my womb was 19mm. The biopsies revealed endometrial cancer in the early stage.  I was given the option to have a full hysterectomy within 2 weeks. This took place on 17th dec and I had keyhole surgery.  2 weeks later I was called back to the hospital to be told that biopsies from the operation showed that it was further progressed than first thought and was now graded at stage 3a. This was another massive shock that it was suspected that it was in my pelvis. I was being referred to the oncology team at a hospital in newcastle.  It was felt that a course of radiotherapy would be beneficial. I was sent for a CET scan and a PET scan which revealed that j was clear.  I began my radiotherapy on 5th march 2020 nothing prepared you mentally for any treatment, but this is where I am on my journey right now week 1of 6 with daily visits. My family are very positive and supportive but alot of the appointments I have to do myself.  It is very tiring and my anxiety makes me feel sick. I have developed a heightened sense of smell, and I smell this smell whenever I enter the hospital, I know its psychological, but at the moment it's not a good experience hopefully it will get better as I go along.  If anyone else has a similar experience and how they have overcome this please let me know. Many thanks Tracy

  • Hi Tracy53, saw your post, and I am in a very similar position. Hope you are feeling well.  Wanted to ask if I may what's the daily radiotherapy like? I am just about to start and any advice/info would be appreciated (no pressure), would  just be good to get another person's experiences.  Thank you.  Take care.

  • Hi I was reading through this as worried bout my diagnosis, thought you might be able to gv advice if ok. Because I was originally 1a grade 2 they took no lympthnodes, but after checking they took me to grade 3 as have mixed cells. My fear is they took no nodes, I asked the surgical nurse in care of me and she said they probably won’t take now as means another op, I see oncologist on 30th should I be worried enough to ask him about this

  • Hi did u decide about lympthnodes, I’m now in same position as you, I worry cancer will be in them and they havnt took them, I’m also mix cell, what treatment did you have, any advice appreciated

  • I have my oncologist tomorrow I’m dreading what will say I rang MDT nurse yesterday and said how worried I was as no nodes taken and everything I read on support groups say they tested them. She said was because when did mri there was no swelling in lymphnodes that’s why didn’t take. But definitely bringing this up tomorrow with oncologist. I will find my treatment out tomorrow so will come back on here and leave message. Hv u got mix cell aswell, they said mine was clear cell, and I’m scared Cos listed as aggressive

  • Hi how is journey going have you had meeting to discuss ur treatment yet. I have been told 4 brachytherapy over 2 weeks, asked bout lympthnodes oncologist says no lympthnode swelling in mri which is why took no nodes. Have to admit on grade 3 worried only having 4 brachytherapy and not anything else like other grade 3 people are having
