A Mother's Love in the Cancer Bubble

Hi there,

My son was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2018 and went through surgery and then three rounds of chemo. The following year of blood and CT follow-ups were all positive and encouraging, then at the final 1-year appointment, they discovered a 4cm tumour in his abdomen. Luckily this cancer was the same type of tumour and had not spread to any other organs at that time. Whilst he waited for a second opinion on treatment cancer spread to his lymph nodes as far as his meck. He has opted to join a clinical trial in London and is currently undergoing high dose chemo. The process is very brutal; and the days and weeks are a roller coaster of temp spikes, infections and worry. His father and I live in France so can be in London quite easily but the risk of infection is just too great and we have been asked to stay away.  He has his lovely wife to support him which we are thankful for. However, we are struggling with the stress and worry around this situation and it is affecting our health. I am just looking for an outlet for my worries and maybe some emotional support from this community to help us get through this horrible time. And, if possible, in turn, support others.

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Clemmie,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to read about your son - I can only imagine how difficult this must be for all of you.

I'm glad you found this forum as hopefully it can offer you some outlet for your worries - it's often helpful writing things down, as well as speaking to others in similar situations.

Hopefully you'll receive other replies from members soon, but if not do feel free to browse or search the forum for other relevant discussions, then hopefully you can find other people for mutual support.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thanks for responding Ben. Yes you are right, sometimes just writing down your feelings and thoughts can help to dissipate them. Since his first round of high dose chemo and stem cell transplant it's been a roller coaster. He was hoping to get home today for 5 nights in his own bed before the next round starts on Monday. However, the high dose antibiotics have caused some issues with his kidneys so will have to stay in another night to flush. I felt so sad today when his wife called to say their plans to sleep in their own bed tonight had been thwarted. My heart breaks for them and others in this situation fighting this demon.
