Skin Melanoma Cancer

Hi, my name is Phil & I'm normally a fit 58 year old. I've just been diagnosed with a Melanoma that is type 2A. The information I've been given is very comprehensive & I understand what the stage 2 means but can anyone clarify what the A means?

I'm wondering if the A refers to being a Amelanotic melanoma as detailed on this Cancer Research web page: www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../types

Hi Phil,
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Stage 2a melanoma means that either the melanoma is between 1 and 2mm thick and is ulcerated (the outermost layer of skin covering the tumour is broken) OR it's between 2 and 4mm thick and not ulcerated. What thickness was yours?

Hi Angie,
Thank you for your reply... I think the nurse said it was 1.4mm thick, so sounds like it's ulcerated. I'll phone tomorrow to check this as I was a bit in shock & most went over my head!
I'm also sorry to hear your own cancer journey & if you are okay with it, I'll keep in contact via this forum as my own experience progresses.

Yes, your nurse should give you more information. You can also ask for a copy of your pathology report. I have sent you a message.
