Waiting core biopsy for breast

Yesterday I had a mammogram ultrasound and a core biopsy the lady who did my ultrasound said she thinks i just have very dence breast tissue but my doctor still did a biopsy as my lump is really quite noticeable when u feel it . You can literally feel all round it. I'm 40 and a mother of 2 I'm so worried!!! Also after the biopsy yesterday I'm in pain I'm so tired but I don't know if that's just the worry. I just wanted to vent what happened and see if my story is the same as anyone else!!! I just don't understand why if it's just dence tissue it would form in a lump and all of a sudden! X

  • Hi Cdl,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your worries but it's of course perfectly natural when there is this uncertainty.

I know there will be many others here who have been through something similar. It's the waiting for information that can be really difficult.

Some people say it helps to keep busy and distracted while waiting for results, to help keep your mind off it. I hope it's not too much longer for you to wait for your results - and in the meantime I hope you find this forum helpful.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi! So sorry you are going through this.
This was exactly what happened to me this month. I got my results on Friday. I've been told my biopsy showed "normal breast tissue" but the scan didn't show anything at all. I can still feel my lump and I'm finding it hard to accept that everything is fine. I thought I'd sleep like a log once I got the result but I still cant switch off.
The biopsy pain will go, paracetamol helped me but I felt achey through my chest for a couple of days. Easier said than done with 2 children but try and take it easy. I'll be thinking of you for the results. Xx

    Hi Cdl,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear you are in pain following your biopsy yesterday. This pain will gradually disappear. Have you been given a return appointment to get your biopsy results yet?

This is always a worrying time. The fact that you were told that it is likely to be just dense tissue in your breast is reassuring. Some people have naturally lumpy breasts, but no sign of cancer. The best thing you can do is to keep yourself busy to distract yourself from the wait. This doesn't have to be all work. Do some pleasant things too. Try to stay away from the internet, as this will only scare you further.

If it is of any consolation, your experience seems to mirror that of most of us who attend the breast clinic for the first time.

Please keep in touch and let us know your biopsy results. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
