Dads throat cancer

My father is 93 and has finished his radiotherapy for throat cancer 10 days ago...

He is in relatively good health...but yesterday he became very upset , and in awful pain,  because his skin on the outside of his neck, is so red ,sore and weeping.

The poor man didn't know how to cope.

He is applying cream ,from ontology care team.

But does anyone know, is this normal after throat radiotherapy.?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Candolim although I'm sorry about your dad's neck. It sounds very painful.

As you'll see here, this does seem to be a common side side effect of radiotherapy but fingers crossed the cream that your dad is using will start to be effective soon.

There is a really useful discussion on the forum called radiotherapy for throat cancer that was created by one of our members towards the end of 2018. It has gone on to be a really popular and useful resource for members at various stages of their head/neck cancer journeys so do be sure to have a look and join in if you have any other questions as they're all very friendly and helpful.

Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to talk things through with them as well. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes to you both,
