Mum diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel Cancer

Hi, I have been lurking here long enough so thought it was about time I said Hello.

My mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer late last year (spread to liver & lymph nodes but small isolated specs rather than tumours), its unfortunately inoperable (for now) but she has started Pallative chemo (Capox) with a view to trying to manage the disease for as long as possible.

I have been through every emotion possible and I am up & down like a yo-yo, trying to be strong for her the rest of the family.

She has her 4th chemo next week then they will do a scan to see if the chemo is working. Keeping everthing crossed and trying to be positive, trying to stop my mind wandering to dark thoughts about the future.

Anyway, thats me, just wanted to send a big hug to everyone going through the cancer @@@@ storm. It truly is something you cant prepare yourself for until it hits close to home.

xx

  • Hello Nic,

Sorry to hear the news of your mum. My dad has just had the diagnosis of cancer in the bowel which has also spread to the liver and lung. It's hit me like a train, not quite feeling real yet and to be honest I'm terrified.

Another app tomorrow so fingers crossed all goes well.

I hope everything goes well for your mum xx

  • Sorry you are going through this also, one things start moving its all a bit of a whirlwind.

I dont know if you have already but head over to the bowel cancer uk website forum (my mum isnt good online so I am doing reserach / getting advice on her behalf and also finding it very supportive)  its a very friendly forum. There is a specific relative & freinds thread so lots of people on there who get it.

Hope all goes well with the appointment xx

  • Thank you Nic, it is a bit of a whirlwind. It all feels like a bad dream that I want to wake up from to be honest.

I didn't know that I'll check that out, thank you.

Thank you!! Fingers and toes crossed xx
