Metastatic thyroid cancer with mediastinal lym & Lung Cancer

Hi All.

My name is Lyn, I have 3 grown children who between them have blessed us with eight grandchildren all, along with my husband of 36years are my world.

Dec 2017 I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and had TT. Not a day has passed since that I've felt well. After a spell in hospital and tests last May they found a mass across my sternum and on the right lung. A biopsy was taken from chest only which proved to be metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma with mediastinal lymphadenopathy (stage 4) and it was assumed the lung the same. To date the only treatment I've be given is a high dosage of thyroxin. Although I've had numerous tests. In this time I've deteriorated and 7 weeks ago it was decided to biopsy the lung which proved to be lung Cancer (stage 2). I'm scheduled for SBRT in a weeks time, aiming to cure the lung. I fear my treatment elsewhere a long road, I know it's incurable and worry for the quality of life I have ahead.

  • Hello Lyn and welcome to the forum.

I was very sorry to read your post and hear about all that you've been through the past 2 years. It sounds as if it's been a difficult time for you and now with this recent deterioration and scheduled SBRT it's understandable that you're worried.

I think that we have a number of members here who will be able to identify with some of the concerns that you've mentioned (albeit they may have different diagnoses). I'm hopeful that some of them may post to say Hello! and share their experinces with you.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to speak to one of our team of nurses before your treatment begins. I'm sure that they will be able to offer some advice and support. You're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm if you'd like to.

Keep in touch Lyn. Let us know how you get on and we'll do our best to support you through this.

    Best wishes,
