6 weeks following left kidney removed

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer on 3rd December 2019. After going for an ultrasound to check for gallstones the routinely checked my kidneys and pelvis and spotted a mass. This was back in June. It was a bit of a mess about between then and December but we got there in the end. On the 13th January I had my left kidney removed and have been on the road to recovery since then. It just seems to be taking forever the top wound of the 3 split back open once my staples were removed but not enough to be stitched so I'm just having to clean and redress and on top of that I've just started in the last couple of days to have sharp pains in the left side of my stomach not too far from one of my wounds does anyone know of this is normal? I'm really struggling to deal with some of the thoughts and feelings I keep having but I'm being open with my partner and my mum which helps as before I was keeping it to myself and wasn't liking who or how I was. I think I've ranted on a bit now so will stop there

  • Hello Nomes1984

I'm glad ot hear that you've been talking to those close to you more recently. It certainly will help you to process everything that you've been through. I hope that posting here also helped to offload things as well.

Have you spoken to your GP or someone at the hospital about the recent pains you've been having? If not then do get it checked just for your peace of mind.

You might find it helpful to have a look through this page on our website about coping emotionally. I also wanted to give you the phone number for our team of nurses. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure that they would be able to talk things through with you and offer some support.
I hope that your recovery continues to go smoothly and steadily. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

    Best wishes,
