Mum is waiting for a biopsy appointment

Hello,

My mum has multiple health issues and has always been borderline anemic. The anemia got worse over December and January. So the GP referred her to the colorectal department at the hospital she saw a consultant there on the 18th jan, who said she had an ugly suspicious lump on rectal examination. She wanted to biopsy it but was worried that the bleeding wouldn't be controlled and seen as she is already anaemic that this wasn't an option.
So instead arranged a CT scan, I assumed this was to check for metasis as well as seeing how far the lump goes up inside the colon, you can see the lump covering her anus.
We were able to see the scan results on her patient access through her GP on the 4/2/20. It suggested the primary lump at her anus was malignant and that it had metasised to her inguinal lymph node and there were 2 nodules found in her lung (she has lung disease so could possibly be from that).
we went to the GP ASAP as we had read this report without any medical translation and needed answers.
The GP said it looked like cancer but no one can say until a biopsy has been taken.
So 2.5 weeks later we are still waiting a date for a biopsy and I've called the hospital several times to get a date arranged as by now my mum is crying most of the day, not sleeping, feeling out of breath more than usual for her, feeling light headed and yesterday she had blood loss from her back end which resulted in it dripping down her leg and a mess on the floor.
Apparently the appointment coordinator I need to speak with is in on Monday and I'm really hoping they can shed some light on this biopsy date! I feel like I'm fighting blind for a diagnosis. I'm just reaching out for some advice or support as things are tough for my mum just not knowing.

Many thanks,

Helen

  • Hi Helen and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry that your mum has been unwell lately and cancer may be suspected.

I hope you were able to get in touch with the appointment coordinator yesterday and managed to get a date for a biopsy sorted out but I just wanted to let you know that our members are here for you and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

    Best wishes to you both,
