Endometrial Biopsy Unsuccessful

Hello. I'm 35 and for the last 6 months experienced extremely heavy and painful periods .
I wad referred to a consultant after having an ultrasound.
He said he wanted to perform an endometrial biopsy however I have never experienced pain like it before! Unfortunately he was unsuccessful at getting the sample and has now said he will refer me back to my GP.
has anyone else experienced a painful and unsuccessful biopsy please? If so, are there options to have some pain relief or anaesthetic?  Thank you in advance

  • Hello Stars 84,

Poor you this is bad luck that it was so painful for you and they were unable to perform the biopsy. We have information on our website on this page on the endometrial biopsy which I hope will be useful to you. I hope that your GP will have some good suggestions for you - when you see your doctor, do mention that this was really painful for you and I would suggest you ask whether there are ways of having the biopsy done with adequate pain relief or anaesthetic.

Our nurses may be able to tell you more so don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will also hear from some of our members who have been in a similar situation before and that they will have some good tips for you on this.

    Best wishes,
