Referred to breast clinic about “thickened tissue”

Hi, iv never posted in a forum before but yesterday I went to the doctors because the past few months i have been having pain in my right breast, not so much that it needs a pain killer but noticeable, especially around my period. The doctor said she has noticed some thickening on the outer side of my right breast and has referred me to the hospital for an ultrasound " to settle my mind" and because I am 30.I'm really worried. My mum was diagnosed with fibrocystic breasts last year. I have poked and prodded so much I think iv made my breast even sorer trying to feel for lumps and bumps, both breasts feel pretty lumpy with marble shaped and longer shaped "lumps", worried sick! Has any one else had any experience with thickened tissue and being sent for ultrasounds?

  • Hello Anxiousmum30

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so worried about your upcoming appointment. Being referred to hospital can cause some anxiety but try to focus on the comment that your GP made about the referral being to "settle your mind".

I know we have a number of women here who have attended with all sort of breast lumps, bumps and thickening and hopefully some of them will be along to reply to your post and share their experiences.

I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your appointment. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for the response Jenn,

my appointment is a week on Thursday and they have said to allow 3 hours for the appointment so I am assuming that is to allow for further tests if they aren't happy with the ultra sound, I find myself constantly feeling now, I know being obsessed over it won't help in anyway! I'm trying not to google anything because it seems to make everyone panic more from what I have gathered on other threads. My mum was sent to the breast clinic at the end of last year and has been told she has fibrocystic breast changes so I'm trying to stay positive and remind myself that the GP is just following procedure with my symptoms.
Sending best wishes and positivity to all the women who are worrying and anxious
