Introduction to the forum

Hi.  I was diagnosed with adenocarinoma bowel cancer in December and had right hemicolectomy surgery four weeks ago.  I am recovering well and feeling much better than I expected.  The cancer had not spread to my lungs or liver but the post surgery histology showed cancer cells in my lymph nodes and there was also an issue with BRAF (I find it hard to understand clearly what BRAF are) so in a few weeks time I will be starting three months of chemotherapy.  I was disappointed to be told that after the chemotherapy there would be a 50% chance of recurrence and although I'm physically feeling good I often feel fearful for my future.  I live alone with my two dachshunds who are a great comfort and keep me active and I have good friends who have been very supportive but my close family do not live near me.

  • Hi kayf,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about what you're going through at the moment. I hope you're getting on OK. It sounds like there are some positives in there, and while I can imagine it was disappointing to hear that about the 50%, they will at least keep an eye on you.

It's good to hear you're feeling good and that you have some supportive friends around you, and I'm also glad you found this forum - it is a very supportive and understanding community of people so do use it as much as you'd like to write down any thoughts or concerns. You may also find it helpful to browse or search the forum (using the button in the blue bar above) for any other relevant discussions.

    Wishing you all the best,
