Worried after surgery

My husband has just had a right hemicolectomy due a 17cm tumour. Cancer at 37! He's home and very much struggling to do a lot. He's having up and down days it's only been a week since the op. I've been trying to call people to check little things but no one seems to be bothered to help or at least our minds at ease. I wondered if anyone that has experience going through this would give me some advice on what I should be looking for if things aren't going right. Everything worries him and he's trying to be strong, he has been eating and drinking fine until last night when he got very eggy smelling burps/breath and has very watery bowel movement and nausea, Is this normal? Otherwise he just tired and sore. Any advice would be great appreciated xx

  • My mother had a bowel resection in Nov 2018. For weeks after she struggled with vomiting and loose bowel movements. Struggled to make the toilet at times. Then about 4/5 weeks later suddenly made a dramatic recovery. Even went to watch a show and Christmas shopping. Still has to be careful what she eats.. def no spicy food! She also has something from her GP to help not quite sure of what though sorry. She was taking Immodium but GP perscribed something that has quicker effect.
Hope he feels better soon. If you have any concerns Id ring your GP or Consultants Sec.?  Thankfully they were great. Unfortunately my mother was re admitted 2 days after she came home due to being unable to stop the vomiting. Needed drip etc. They kept saying the bowel is soo sensitive and takes a while to recover.

    Hope that helps x
