Hi Jiggs,
Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear why you have joined us. How are you coping with your diagnosis? Please don't worry about being assigned a specialist nurse. All of us with a cancer diagnosis are or have been given a specialist nurse.
This gives us someone to contact any time we need to along our cancer journey. They are specialised in the individual forms of cancer and are a great conduit betweem you and your care team.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
Kind regards,
Jolamine
Thank you Jolamine for your quick response...the thing is I've NOT been diagnosed with cancer..they are still doing further tests, this is the reason I'm concerned...if I've not been diagnosed with cancer...surely they (the specialists) are jumping the gun by giving me a specialist nurse ? I've had a colonoscopy which I had to ask to be stopped due to extreme discomfort and a CT scan which showed up a thickening in my colon and im waiting to have another CT scan on my abdomin next Tuesday...but still no word of "cancer"....in the phone call from my consultant he mentioned the word "cancer" three times and said.."we should he looking at the worst scenario" which freaked me out a little..yet he didn't actually diagnose it...I've had cancer before (stage three breast cancer) and was given the all clear last year..however in my experience one gets a specialised nurse when going through cancer treatment...am I wrong ?
Thanks again
Jiggs..xx
Hi Jiggs,
I am so sorry to hear that you have previously had breast cancer, but glad to hear that you are now in remission. I have had two bouts of breast cancer in the past 10 years and on both occasions, at two different hospitals, I was introduced to a breast care nurse on my first visit.
I am glad to hear that you have not been diagnosed with cancer this time, but I wonder if your consultant was trying to break it to you gently when he advised you "we should be looking at the worst case scenario". I sincerely hope that I am wrong about this, but my consultant told me at my first visit that he was pretty sure that I had cancer. This was before he sent me for a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. I discovered that he was right when I got my results the following week.
My mum had breast cancer and, sadly she died from secondary cancer 10 years before I was diagnosed. She had metastases in her brain, bones, liver and lungs by that time. Can you bring someone with you to your appointment on Tuesday? It is always helpful to have someone with you, especially when you are going to get any test results. It is also a good idea to write down a list of any questions you have to ensure that you don't forget to ask any pertinent questions.
Your CT scan should be a lot less painful than your colonscopy was. Here's hoping that it gives a clearer view of what the thickening in your colon could be. I sincerely hope that all goes well.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
