7 years on from whipple operation - beating the odds

I had a whipple operation on the 28.11.2012 I have been told lasting 5 years after the operation is pretty much amazing but I'm on 7years but I really struggle with excruciating pain that much so I take 100 ml of zomorph every day I am also diabetic. Before the operation I didn't take any medication I now take 48 tablets and an injection every day. But as my wife says I'm here to tell the tail. What most people don't realise is how it affects the rest of your family I personally dont think I would be here if it wasn't for my wife. I did think and still think they would be better without me I sometimes feel like a burden. They put me on anti depressants and they do help.the type of tumour I had was an neuro endocrine tumour of the pancreas.

  • Hi Gazza, I'm really sorry for how tough it's been since you had this procedure done 7 years ago.

I can't begin to comprehend how difficult it must have been to see your life change so much but I'm really glad you've got the support of your wife and family to help you through.

Many members on the forum have actually gone on to do some form of counselling to help them work through their cancer journeys, pre/post cancer. I'm not sure if you've looked in to doing something along these lines already but if you feel it may help you at this time and are interested in finding out more just click here.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice as well.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
