Letrozole

Hi there,

I have been reading through your posts and it has helped me a lot as I thought it was only me having these symptoms. I had stage 2 breast cancer in May 2019. In which I had the lump removed along with 4 nodes. I found the lump on my right breast and the doctor referred me to the hospital upon where they found the cancer on my left breast. Had the op then 3 weeks of radiotherapy. I was put on letrozone for 5 years. Since about 6 weeks ago I have started to ache where I thought you could not possibly ache plus feel so low, don't want to do anything, family are getting on my nerves, sweats the list goes on.

I finally got the courage to call my breast nurse telling her my symptoms and she was so lovely listening to them in which she made me an appointment to go see my oncologist on Friday. Fingers crossed he can help me get over this. Just feel *** atm.

    Hi Annie,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the problems that you are having with Letrozole.  I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. the first time I had a lumpectomy followed by Tamoxifen. The second, I had a double mastectomy followed by Letrozole for 6 years. I stopped taking this in July 2017.

I had problems with both, but they were slightly different with each. My emotions were all over the place with Tamoxifen and the night sweats were horrendous. My joint pain with Letrozole was much worse and I had to have both knees replaced while I was taking it. I was advised to take Letrozole in the evening instead of the morning and also to use the original form of the drug and not one of the many generic drugs.

I am glad to hear that you have already contacted your breast care nurse and have an appointment to se your oncologist on Friday. At the time I was taking these drugs, I wasn't aware that there are a number of alternatives that you can try. Hopefully, your oncologist will try one of these for you. If you are feeling so low, you may need a mild anti-depressant to help you through this. Depression tends to go hand in glove with a cancer diagnosis, so this is perfectly normal I'm afraid.

Please let us know how you get on on Friday. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
