Primary Breast Cancer

I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer just before Christmas and had a lumpectomy on the 16th January.  There were also a couple of lymph nodes removed and the tissue surrounding the tumour.  I have my post op appointment on the 7th February.  As far as I am aware, my treatment will be radiotheraphy and hormone therapy as I am ER positive.

Any ladies out there who are going through or have been through the same?

  • Hi Kay.

I am going through exactly the same experience as you.  Had my first lumpectomy on Christmas Eve and then another last Friday as they did not have clear margins.

They have told me that I will need radiotherapy and then hormone therapy - am just awaiting dates

how was your Op.  Was not as bad as I expected.  I have managed to stay positive and know that at some point this year will be able to put this behind me.

Hope things are going as well as can be expected for you.  Ali xx

  • Hi Ali,

    Thank you for your reply.

My op went ok but I have been sore and very tired, I still have the tape strips over my wound but my Breast Care nurse said to leave those and they will drop off when they're ready.  I do feel stronger though and have started to do a few more things, make sure I have a walk every day and I've met a friend for coffee today.  Can't seem to get going in the mornings though so plan things for the afternoon.

I'm also trying to stay positive in that it was caught early so the prognosis is good.

    Kay xx
