Solid ovarian mass

Hi everyone,

I've recently had an ultrasound which found a 2.7 cm solid mass on one ovary and a slightly smaller one on the other. I have been going backwards and forwards to the doctors for the past ten years with symptoms of IBS, including feeling bloated, constipation and/or diarrhoea and really painful indigestion but never was ovarian cancer mentioned or considered. I have now been referred to a gyno oncologist and am feeling very overwhelmed, worried and concerned. Has anyone been through anything similar? What can I expect to happen at my appointment with the gyno oncologist? I'm 29 years old and really starting to panic.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

  • Hi DVD2,

I had a solid ovarian mass 5 years ago (age 40). I had the C125 test and MRI at my gym appointment.  They did an internal and I had polys removed and a biopsy. They watched to see if my mass grew over the following year which it did.

The following year I had the mass removed. It was the size of a grapefruit. I had to have my every removed.

I was worried it was cancer but after my first MRI shortly after my first gyno appointment, they said it wasnt cancer. Like you,  I was naturally overwhelmed when they said they had found a solid mass; I was also getting married the same year.

Fortunately it was a big cyst. Think positive and I am sure you will get some answers very soon.

  • Thank you for your reply; it really is helpful reading about other people's experiences. Thankfully your diagnosis wasn't cancer, but I'm sure it was a stressful time nevertheless.

Staying positive is easier said than done but I'm trying my best I think it's the not knowing which is the worst part.

    Thanks again,

  • Evening everyone,

I'm currently awaiting surgery for what was originally thought to be a dermoid but was atypical...this has been delayed for past 3 months due to covid, so I requested another ultrasound, this has now come back and has grown bigger in all dimensions, but now has a solid mass with vascularity and septations.

My female family history includes ovarian, skin, lung and breast cancer. Am worried that if its changed that much in 3 months what will another 3 look like....have been given an early April as an estimation on when I can now expect surgery.... my doctor has said she will chase it up. What this entails I don't know.

Has anyone had anything similar and it be benign? I'm only 30 and worried ill lose my whole system like my nanna did at 35.

Any advice for remaining calm is greatly appreciated lol xx
