Pink warrior

hi I'm 52 and was diagnosed with ER+ invasive breast cancer in December following a routine mammogram.  I had a wide excision lumpectomy with licap reconstruction and lymph node biopsy on 6th January.  Happily my results were fantastic, all tumour removed, clear margins, no spread to lymph nodes or blood.  Tissue sample has now been sent to America for oncotype to see if I would benefit from chemotherapy.  If not it will be straight to radiotherapy and 5 years of hormone therapy.  Sadly my dad passed away from terminal cancer the day after my surgery so I've had to deal with a lot.  I'm still very tender following my op and am unsure if I should return to work or leave it another week as I've had a lot to deal with.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Sarah and welcome to the forum.

I noticed that you'd not had a reply so wanted to just pop along to say Hello! I'm sure that some of our lovely members who have had experience with BC will be along soon. I also wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear that you've also recently lost your Dad. It sounds as if you've had a lot to deal with.

If you're still feeling sore then do give yourself time to fully recover from your lumpectomy. It's important that you're feeling as well as you can before the next part of your treatment and in the grand scheme of things having another week away from work may be better than rushing back.

Keep in touch Sarah and let us know how you get on with things.

    Best wishes,
